We went to church this morning and then joined a village barbecue in Santa Eugelia, organized by friends of ours. It was sunny, 25 degrees Celsius, but we sat among pine trees and barbecued sausages and meat. We even talked some Mallorquini and Spanish, but fortunately, quite a few people also spoke English. A very nice way to spend the afternoon.
I am alone for two days and took the opportunity to do a long and strenuous hike today, to the top of Puig Tomir, the second highest mountain on Mallorca. In contrast to the highest, Puig Major, which has a military installation on top, the peak of Puig Major is accessible (more or less) at a height of 1,100 m. The hike was really strenuous with a bit of climbing, the weather today was great, and the views absolutely fantastic. I met a few sheep, goats and donkeys and that was it. Great (and tiring) way to spend a sunny day!
I am alone for a week now, the weather was really bad the last two days, but today it was sunny and warm again. I drove to the end of the road, at Cap Formentor. Beautiful views, as shown in the first picture. This was a very welcome sight when we rounded this cape in 2009 after a very rough sail from France. I also met one of my sailing friends today who lives on Mallorca and became a grandfather recently. We had some coffee and chatted about boats, sailing and being an offshore grandfather. The sunset was great tonight and appropriately celebrated at a west facing tapas bar. The second picture is my walk back to our flat.
