Another sunny day, and another push North as the weather is supposed turn ugly tonight. I am anchored in Grace Harbour now, a very popular anchorage that I have all to myself today.

On my way North

Another beautiful spring day, warm enough to sit outside in a T shirt. I flew back to Nanaimo yesterday and today crossed the Strait of Georgia to Pender Harbour. I am now anchored in Garden Bay there. Unfortunately, the Garden Bay Pub, which burned down two years ago, has not yet been restored and remains closed. It is very quiet here and I am enjoying the nice weather puttering about the boat.

We are both in Vancouver for a few days and this afternoon the sun came out for a georgous spring day. We have sold our flat and intend to spend most of the summer on the boat. I have packed up most of my stuff as I plan to leave tomorrow to take the boat up north.

We are spending a couple of days with friends in Parksville. Yesterday evening we sat around a campfire on the beach, brought back memories of our student days. We even sang Puff the Magic Dragon.

I came into Nanaimo Harbour today and Sheila is flying in this evening. We have a reservation at a highly recommended Greek restaurant tonight, look forward to our outing.

I went further North and am at Newcastle Island close to Nanaimo tonight. In the afternoon the rain changed to drizzle and I went for a nice long walk on the island. Unfortunately, the Dinghy Dock Pub is only open on weekends right now, so I am staying on the boat tonight.

It is still raining, and cold. Sheila flew back to Vancouver from Ganges and I went to Princess Cove on Wallace Island. Very quiet here.

James Bay, Prevost Island

Short hop to James Bay on Prevost Island today. This anchorage only works in a Southerly wind, which we have plenty of today (and hopefully for the night too). Unfortunately, a Southerly often brings rain and we are getting lots of that too. The temperature was 6 degrees this morning and it didn’t get much warmer during the day. I had to dig out my Alaskan summer clothes to go for a walk.

We came into Montague Harbour today, beautiful sunshine but a chilly wind. Sheila took out a new paddleboard and we went for a nice walk. Unfortunately, the weather will turn again tonight.

Sidney Spit

We came to the boat yesterday to take it out of hibernation. After moving all our stuff on board we met some friends in an old favorite pub of ours in Victoria, Spinnakers. It had hardly changed since we were there last 16 years ago, even some of the menu choices were still the same (fortunate for me). We had a great time catching up with our friends. Today we took Ancient Murrelet to Sidney Spit, where we are the only boat tonight. The weather is still cool, but dry and in the afternoon the sun came out a little bit.
